I’m re building my anchor locker , one reason the floor of it was rotten, this chain locker does get a lot water in there from down the chain hole in the winch ,also there is a rope locker let into the front deck ,this also drains into the chain locker, there was a plastic skin fitting in the bottom of chain locker don’t know if this is original, but as Its out I want to replace it ,I was thinking of swapping it for something better like dzr one or a stainless one , bare in mind the galvanised chain will be piled up on top of it , this can’t do the plastic one much good can it ? Also Any known problems of galv chain being in contact with dzr or stainless in the presence of salt water ? Prob over thinking this but I don’t want to revisit this job as it’s pain to get to , any advice please ? Anyone know what their boat has got plastic one or metal ?

Just to boost your question... I presume the fitting you ask about connects to a hose to carry water outside of hull. Hence failure might lead to water inside hull from anchor locker. The fitting if on the bottom needs to be very low profile to allow all water to find it's way in. I would imagine plastic as no problem. If you are worried then fabricate a dome protection with holes to allow water in. So if you go DZR then likewise a protection might be good to keep GI chain away from DZR. For me I would just replace plastic one. Unlike skin fittings in hull the boat is not going to sink if it fails. (I presume) ol'will

That was my worries the dzr and the galve chain in contact with each other sat in salty water in the presence of air , and as you said the chain locker is indeed connected to the outside via a skin fitting this is above the water line but only by about 6 inches , might just use plastic again just for the corrosion protection,

Could you put a false floor in so that the chain and rope are lifted of the drain hole. The floor would need to be a loose fit plus some holes to allow draining, etc.
On my Etap this is the factory fit - ie a board with a gap underneath and a small drain hole in the centre of the bow.
