If you already have a masthed anchor light ideally placed to be seen from the bridge of cruise liners, container ships, and supertankers using the same anchorage or by passing astronauts one of these a couple of metres above the deck where more likely to be seen by other small craft might be handy

I have something similar I hang from the boom at night. Also doubles as illuminating the cockpit for any night time bladder relief.

Haven't been run down yet.

I'm not throwing sticks at it, I'm just wondering how suitable it will be for real life boating. I've been looking for something like it for a while and just wondering how suitable it might be.

I have similar LED lanterns from Aldi - £2.99 lasr week - I now have 2 - complete with a compass in the top! When tested, 2 x AA batteries last about 5 days continuous using decent Varta batteries.

Waterproof with stainless steel fittings?

Probably reasonably water-resistant simply because of the design, but I bought two similar ones from Lidl a few years ago which had a solar panel on the top to charge the cell inside. They worked OK as anchor lights .... but the salt in the sea air attacked the chrome within a few weeks so I brought them home before all the fittings were reduced to rust. :ambivalence:
