Anchor light-good idea

in the same vein, I have never seen anyone (apart from me!) hoist an anchor ball during the day. Am I just being too pernickety?

No. I always do.

Trouble is not everyone knows what they mean. Last time I put one up, anchored up just out of the channel in the Medina and fishing rods over the side, three boats came over to see if I was aground or broken down and wanted a tow.

So do I. Last summer, on entering an anchorage on the east coast of Menorca, there was a British-flagged motor yacht of over 20m. I couldn't see an anchor chain; it just wasn't visible and he wasn't showing a ball so I motored past and called them to ask if they were at anchor. "Of course", they said. Why "of course"? $10million worth of shiny motor yacht with, presumably, a professional crew and NO ball? And an anchoring system that was invisible. I had no way of knowing whether they were hove-to, on a mooring or at anchor so couldn't drop my own anchor until I found out.

I still can't figure out why the chain wasn't visible!
