Anchor Connectors?

This is my anchor connection/straightener that I made up but not used in anger yet

Oddly I've found the same if you let it dangle when going forward too. Moving from Croatia to Greece meant encountering mud or sticky sand quite a lot so we have recently got into the habit of leaving the anchor submerged until clear enough of other boats to put on a burst of speed and watch the mud wash off. And the anchor just seems to orient itself right too.

I go in astern as I don't like the idea of all the mud and sand fines Around the boat going through my cooling water system...

That is similar to mine, except that mine has eyes for shackles instead of your jaws. I don't like the jaws direct on to the anchor, and I don't like, and see no point in having a swivel. Also, mine just has a single bend, whereas your's has three. However, I'm sure that your's will work just as well as mine.

I know you are a good technical person, but that bent link articulates in one direction only. If you embed that anchor and pull at 90 degrees to the original line, 'orrible orrible things will happen to the linkage points.

At the very least you need another toggle between the kinky link and the shank, and preferably a few links of chain to a ring at the end of the shank. And with a Kong-type swivel AND a monster galvanised one you are not introducing redundancy but more possible points of potential failure. I can see eight eight connection failure points before the anchor reaches chain. Keep it simple ?

You guys are right there are too many points of failure particular on the lower anchor in the top pic.

The forks was a mistake and I should have been a single finger but I did not put a slot in my anchor which was another mistake. There should be a bow shackle between the anchor and the bent link.

The monster swivel had a much greater breaking load than the chain and I can use one that big as my owned designed anchor roller setup is wide enough. the Kong swiven is not needed as said and I should replace it with a shackle.

As I said I have not used either anchor in anger as overnight anchoring along our coast is on possible as there are no sheltered bays/anchorages. and very few lunch stops.

Thks for the comments I just wanted show my setup and have learnt a lot with some very valid comments.

Thks again guys.
