Yes, the locking statement is not at all clear. I assume they mean to 'pop' it with a punch, which I will do if the problem continues after trying thread lock.

I was quite disturbed to find how loose both of these screws had become after a month or so. Both were tightened to the greatest of my ability but were finger loose when I checked them.

Thats a good idea, but does it not "degalvanise" the chain?

Zinc spray. I have sprayed the connector and the chain about a metre above the connector. My spray says that it is conductive and rich in Zn. Not as good as hot galvanising, or even electro-galvanising, for sure, but maybe better than nothing?
