Anchor Chain Swivel

If you decide to go for the Kong swivel wouldn't worry about the links. I have a Rocna and the Kong is supposed to be much better with side loads than the Force 4 type so there is virtually no chance of any problem. Alternatively, try the links without any swivel and see if your Rocna comes up the right way. If it does you might not need the swivel at all.

If you look at the second link to my website given above you will see the reason why the extra links are needed with a Kong in conjunction with any anchor with a plate shank. Before I fitted the extra links there were many occasions when my anchor was recovered with the Kong in the wedged position.

I never saw the point in a swivel, so I took ours off. Having used all the chain plus shiny new warp the other day I now can see the point - the chain was twisted to buggery due to the rope winding up or unwinding under load after 3 hours at anchor.

We have just removed the swivel (a high quality s/s one) - reason was the geometry of the Delta anchor meant that most times the anchor rotated the wrong way round just a it broke surface - and it was a real hassle therefore to get on board.

Without the swivel (having changed anchor also to the Rocna) so far it has come up the right way at least 80% of the time - and if it comes up just 90 degrees out it will self correct.
So going to stick with no swivel for a while (like the last boat, which worked fine for 10 years with no swivel). Also one less failure worry, though I recognise a top quality branded swivel (as we had) is very strong, provided set up to avoid side loads

It's strange because our Rocna has never come up with the swivel wedged, either with the Kong or the previous one. Perhaps my Rocna 25 / swivel combination is a close enough fit such that there is no possibility of it twisting sideways. I have a few links of 10mm chain ready if I ever felt the need but so far I've had no reason to fit it.
