Does anyone have a handy table (I've a vague feeling I might have seen something in a magazine once) of the force in an anchor chain for a given size / type of (sailing) yacht in various wind speeds and the corresponding sea states? I thought I'd seen a test somewhere in which a load cell was put into an anchor chain....

all advice appreciated!

PM me. I\'ll send you an XL program + boat windage calcs etc ...

NB: I'm away sailing from Wed 19 July till ~ mid August. So if you want/need this then email me before Wednesday 1800Z.

Cheers,

H

Very variable thing that depends on so many factors, but the ABYC (American Boat and Yacht Council) have some data which is analyzed and converted to a formula here: http://alain.fraysse.free.fr/sail/rode/forces/forces.htm (you can enter your boat length and it will give you the interpolated force from the experimental data).

The results you'll get from that are very conservative. Read the text on that page carefully.
