I am replacing the old corroded anchor chain and was after some advice...

The existing was just over 20 metres of 7mm chain, weighing 22.4kg

I'd like to go for a longer chain but weight and space are issues.

I am considering the option of using 35m-40m of 6mm chain (28kg-32kg)

What are the panels opinions of using 6mm chain?

Can't see an issue. We are happy to spend N nights a year in a 10 tonne boat anchored on 8mm, so I can see no reason not to use 6mm for your Bayliner.

At the end of the day, it's the weight of the chain that provides the holding power, not it's breaking strain. You'll break the anchor out several years before the chain gets close to breaking, so 6mm will allow you to carry more scope which should make for more comfortable anchoring.
