Anchor Buddy

A comment and a question. I have read that an anchor buddy can be particularly useful in circumstances where a short rode is necessary.
Question (or two) is there any information on the weight of angel that should be used for a particular sized boat? Is there a benefit in using an angel where there is rope and chain rode being used or is it just for all chain?

My understanding from the literature is that it is equally suitable for use with rope and/or chain. Some contributors to this thread suggests that it does not improve the anchors holding power but is good at reducing the swinging circle and acts as an effective shock absorber. I have decided, subject to it fitting my bow roller to buy a new Rocna anchor, but I think I will also get an anchor buddy - belt and braces!!

Rocna template

Ken, I got the template today and will create it in true 'Blue Peter' fashion. Going to the boat on 17th so I will give it a try then.

Rocna www has downloadable templates, so you can build a mock-up out of Cornflake packets, Fairy Liquid bottles and PrittStick to work out whether a Rocna will fit.

Here's what I think. If the wind is so strong that your anchor rode is bar taut, then the angel has no effect. But at any other point where there is some slack in the rode, then the wind has to lift the weight of the angel before putting pressure on the boat. To answer my own question, the heavier the angel the better. [the best thing, obviously, is to have the biggest anchor you can afford and/or carry, but an advantage of the angel is that it can be kept in the bilge where it helps stability, until the rainy day]
But then what do I know...
