Analogue instrumentation thoughts

Things are progressing quickly on Tolerance and my thoughts are turning towards the instrument panel that needs updating badly. Temperature, turbo boost, oil pressure, fuel quantity and tacho + one other that I can't remember are all electrical gauges and I'd like to clean up the looks of a new panel by digitising at least some of them.

Is there a way to digitise the signal/resistance currently supplied to the gauges or will I have to replace the senders and run new cables?

Engines are Ford Sabre 250's and I'm unable to locate the ECU to pick up any useful data signal ?

I'm happy to keep the Tacho's and fuel quantity as analogue.

Thanks in advance.

Rob

Ha, apologies, read it quickly!!! Great engines, I grew up with the 210s in my parents Ranger 36 then fitted a pair of 300s into my last boat, a Riva Bravo 38, to replace the 'thirstier than Ireland' V8 petrols it had!
Ahh, that's good to know, we bought the boat knowing we would have to spend significant money updating it internally, the survey showed her to be mechanically and structually sound so we're enjoying watching the transformation happen from a distance.

I have to say I do like the simplicity of the older engines ?

Being an Aquastar I would be surprised if there were any structural issue!

Great boats and I will look forward to seeing what you do with the interior.

There is quite a bit of expertise around Sabres on here already, but I built up quite a knowledge and source of contacts and suppliers if you ever need anything. I also have manuals parts list and installation document if you need them.

if you also plan to upgrade the electronics in general - or if yours accept NMEA2000 - there's a series of control boxes that can do the analog to digital conversion and sent info to your N2K plotter/4in multidisplays.
Maretron, Actisense and the one I used NoLand Engineering.
But as I said, they'll convert to NMEA2000 then you display wherever.

Interesting, thanks vas, there's already a Raymarine e7 fitted and I have an e97 to drop in but not sure if to have the e97 on the lower or upper helm. Is the NoLand you are using fairly easy to configure to N2K?

That's very kind of you, much appreciated ?

I started a blog on Facebook more for my own records and a bit of fun that tracks what we have been up to if you are interested.

you need a PC, their free s/w and a usb connection to the unit (after wiring it all up properly to the gauges behind the dash)
Then you set two values on each gauge on the system and it interpolates between them (and off bounds)
nothing particularly difficult, but you do need basic knowledge of electrics and an understanding of what's going on...
Mind if you go the Actisense route, you got to borrow or buy a 150odd device to plug the thing in your computer for configuration, not v.convenient. Haven't checked their latest offerings, so that's my understanding as of 3yrs ago.

cheers

been through that again Farsco,

IF one wants to buy it needs to ask a few Qs:
1. can it work together with the normal gauge or the gauge has to be removed from the system?
2. how do you regulate it for 0-5 or 0-10bar oil press senders fe?
3. what/howmany and what for are the jumpers inside
4. a crude manual to read through first

All true Vas .....that is sold by a UK company Dragon Marine Services so might be a little support there prior to purchase.

you can buy the same thing direct from China for £115 by the looks of it
