Would like to sign up for an autumn diesel engine course either Solent area or South East England.

Just want to learn the basics to keep me out of or possibly get me out of trouble.

Any particular recommendations please?
Anyone want to come along too?

Nick

May well be where I end up but have done a number of courses there and recommend the place highly but thought a change may be interesting....

Hi Nick, have you considered getting the annual service done and asking to attend and help out. i know Dave Crawford Marine in Lymington are happy to oblige with this as they spent a few hours with me last year. I am guessing that if i "help" out every year then I am going to pick up the essentials. This is one to one training and you are learning about your specific engine and can ask questions at your own pace.
You'll probably pay more than a general diesel course but I have found it's money well spent and you get to build a good relationship with an engineer who you may need in the future.( combine the test run with a stop over at a pub!)

Cheers, Simon

Problem is I think I have pestered my ever patient engineer to a near comatose state this year and think he deserves a break!

Its the fender sox. An engineer will never work on a boat with fender sox!!

I did the course given by Tony Brooks at Reading college. Good course run over a weekend - and he puts all his notes up online too. He's also willing to answer questions by e-mail as well. http://www.reading-college.ac.uk/marine/

New Engineer.....

why not put an ad in MBY claiming to be a marine engineer and then you can take apart as many engines as you like.

when you get some experience you can then go back a put then together. suggest you wait at least 4 weeks before you go back, otherwise you'll get a reputation of being really good.

This concept appears work well for the rest of the marine trade...
