This just came up on the OCC Facebook page.

NOTICE: AMSTERDAM...
Due to the heat, 12 of the opening bridges in and around Amsterdam are inoperative. This includes some bridges on the Standing Mast Route. Apparently, the metal is expanding and Dutch Authorities are concerned that they may not get the bridges closed after opening. They have tried spraying water on the bridges to no avail. (We came up the SMR last week and saw water being sprayed on some bridges). So, you may wish to check ahead.

I don’t know but it is likely that the same problem is affecting the swing bridges on the Norfolk Rivers?
When we were last there we were told they would not open if it was too hot.

I don't know the answer, but if you ring Broads Control (number on Broads Authority website under 'Navigation') they will have the most up to date (and usually hour) information.

I do happen to know that the Haven (lifting) Bridge over the River Yare at Great Yarmouth is back in action (it was inoperable a week or so ago for non-heat related reasons).

I think it is happening all over Holland. It happened at the lock near Bruinesse a week or so ago. The lock keeper told us another lock in South Holland had been affected the same day. Because the engineers apparently come from a central base in North Holland boats potentially faced a couple of hours wait stuck in the lock. Fortunately for us we were just observers and not on a boat at the time. But at least there was a happy positive attitude amongst those in the lock.
