Amsterdam boat show

Has anyone been to the Amsterdam boat show? I'm looking for a steel 36-42ft blue water boat and wondered if it would be worth visiting this show. Do they have brokerage stands similar to the Southampton show?

Thanks,
Ruth

Don\'t bother !!

I went there last night, and I was very disappointed. I've been for the past 5 years but this year only ½ the normal amount of halls were being used, and most of those were filled with inflatables and dinghies. Apparantly its because the show runs for less days this year, but still costs the same to exhibit there.
There were some brokerage stands there, but they all advertise on the Internet anyway.
Its only saving grace was that I managed to get in without paying. I would have been gutted if I'd coughed up the €12.50 !!!

Thanks for the advice - I'll try out a few internet brokers instead. Shame about the show though - it would have been a good excuse for a weekend in Amsterdam!

Thanks Vyv - I've had a couple of listings from de Valk (very nice looking boats), but haven't come across the other company. I'll give them a go before travelling to Holland.

We went last September, not sure if it is the same show, to see the new First 27.7 which was on ou rlist at the time. It is alot smaller, but there was plenty to see, dealer got us free tickets.

Great excuse for a week-end away, thoroughly enjoyed the show, the transport to it - hydrofoil from Amsterdam centre and the city itself.

Public transport overall is fantastic - realy easy to get around, the canals amazing, the restaurants very good, people very nice. Avoid the red-light district, it is incredibly tacky and dirty and a waste of time looking around.

That would have been the outdoor boat show at Ijmuiden. Theres plently of boats afloat there, but not that many trade stands.
After having been to Dusseldorf a couple of times, all the other shows seem 2 b a bit of a non event !

Fully agree with your comments and thanks for the warning. We had intended to go on Saturday but went last night instead. Four hours was plenty of time to see virtually everything of interest. There is a small improvement - the dealers' stands on the balcony seems a much better idea than previous. Otherwise, very poor. Few sailing boats to see, although we didn't bother. As ever, the "sloops" were well represented, with some beautiful examples of varnishing. Lots of stinkboats but we ignore them.

Good deals though, we bought Jill a new Douglas Gill ladies offshore jacket and trousers at a very knock-down price. New Nasa Clipper Navtex at 50 Euros off list. An excellent German pop-rivet gun that does rivets up to 6 mm and also does captive nuts.

Hardly worth coming from England but not bad for a Thursday evening after work.
