Installed a victron battery monitor this weekend and spent the afternoon working out the draw from the various bits of the boats electrical system

it all seems as it should; fridge 3amps, internal lights about 1 amp.

However the electric winch and bow thruster showed 50amp and 400amps respectively.

Is this right or is the system throwing a glitch, getting used to my equipment.?

ta

You dont say what either are so impossible to say but Vetus list 12 volt bow thrusters from 200 amps to 800 amps

How do your figures compare with the manufacturers specs for the items

Many of these devices are not instant so the results you see are not always fully indicative

Referring to the battery monitor presumably. They may take a while to sort out % battery capacity etc but id expect them to read amps straight away with no faffing about.

Time consants are not always that instant, there can be a fair ammount of averaging whether you think it is a good idea or not

Sounds about right to me. The anchor winch will draw much more if you load it up.

No way of knowing that's right because the load is all important but probably in the right ball park. Remember a tiny amount of resistance with those currents makes a big difference so thick cables and good crimped connections are the order of the day.
