Looks like I could be out there without too much trouble. Does anyone have an informed opinion on what its likely to be like in the SE ' viewing area' . Anchoring, mooching round in circles or what?
QHM Portsmouth seems underwhelmed by the project.

Or will it be like the Tour de France, much better on the telly.

When you say "the southeast viewing area", are you still looking at the original NTM? They've since superceded it with a new one with the following chart:

So the course will now be set each day depending on the wind, and the main spectator area will vary accordingly. Details to be published on the web before 10am each day.

They are planning to enforce the existing charted "no anchoring" and warship-anchorage-only areas, which may impinge on the spectator area for larger boats.

Ariam's still down in Cornwall, but we're planning to be there on the Supacat (see the "falling overboard" thread). Depending on sea state we'll probably be in slow-speed "floating picnic" mode rather than racing about, and if so we'll probably anchor in the "under 7m" area.

It may well be a better view of the racing on telly, but I'd always rather be on the water than on a sofa :)

So I'm going to be all smug and show off about the fact my Apartment looks out over the Racing Area...balcony, binoculars, cold beer & BT Sport commentary :)

We are passing by there on Saturday and I had forgotten about it - would have sailed right through the middle of the racing area - do you think they might have confused us and awarded us the prize???

I think the ultimate smugness has to be reserved for Spitbank fort, located right in the middle of the race area :). If they're not doing a special event for this, they're idiots.

No, I think a bloke in a RIB would have zoomed up and diverted you :). QHM has given them exclusive use of that bit of water for the duration.

Do you know if there is an accurate set of coordinates published for the limits of the racing area?

I don't think the SE spectator area really offers any anchoring opportunities - anchoring is prohibited anywhere east of the line between Spit Sand Fort and Outer Spit. Further west it is prohibited in the Man of War anchorage (unless you are an MOD vessel). That may leave just a tiny triangle of anchorage just west of the Outer Spit mark - depending on the LNTM issued each day -perhaps we can raft up?

Any viewing area for 7m +?

(Probably be full of Sunsail anyway)

Alahol2.... That area to the west of the submarine barrier is a 'no anchoring' area anyway.. due to submarine cables..

Same applies just to the east of the submarine barrier as well.. Cables to and from the Isle of Wight..

Looks like we could be just having to drift around in that area...

Is there any reason not to anchor just west of the submarine barrier? Looks like lots of cables but does that affect anchoring?

Even if it's not formally forbidden, you run a real risk of losing your anchor when it catches on an underwater obstruction!
