I am lucky enough to be in Valencia on the weekend of the 23rd June when one of the rounds of the Americas cup is taking place. Unfortunately I will be on land rather than on the water.

Clearly the racing action is too far off to see properly from the shore, but does anyone have any tips, reccomendations, suggestions on how I could make the best of my day?

Thanks
Ian

That's the first weekend of the AC final - Alinghi will be racing against the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup.

Assuming that they use the North course for this then you will be able to see it from the beach and from the marina wall but you will need binoculars. (I don't know if they will be charging you for being on the wall - they didn't in 2006). If they race the South course then you wont be able to make them out. There is a large screen (and I mean huge!!!) for viewing and all of the bars will be screening the races as well.

Tips, plenty of water and a hat

As for me /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif ; well; www.americas-cup2007.com

If you email valencia@mundomarino.es and ask for spectator boat details for the AC they will send you their price list in English
They have huge catamarans and mobos to follow the racing with english commentary and its about 75 euros for a seat for one race, alternatively charter Steve Clayton's yacht for a day
I was at the race site last week and its an amazing venue and puts anything we ever had in the UK at Southampton and Portsmouth with the Volvo and Whitbread to shame. I hope someone from Gunwharf Quays goes and actually sees what is possible with a bit of imagination
Its going to be a fabulous spectacle, we are booked to go for both the fleet race and the finals
The Americas Cup website is excellent

Having experienced the Oz defence in Freo way back the big viewing cats would get my vote over taking your own private yacht out - if you want to view the racing.
These IAC craft go upwind and down at 9+ knots.
The spectator fleet equally moves each side tracking the action.
The spectator wash is just aweful.
And most spectotors drive their mobos fast.
And as all we could manage in Freo was 6/7 knots - we were continually chasing the action, blocked from seeing the race boats by big fast motorcruisers, and spent all our time avoiding others who did not care about us.
Still a fabulous experience - but worth passing on this past experience......
Cheers
JOHN
