Americas Cup - thrilling racing at last

I have been cynical all until the last few days when they have actually been racing, Interesting spectacle and also sailing, tactics and using the wind, albeit at different speeds than we are accustomed to.

Ahem, my post #143...

"Given that Hollywood ain't that far away can we now expect an amazing comeback - eight wins on the trot - from the US, skippered by a tousle-headed kid with freckles and a gap-toothed smile?

"Aw shucks, t'weren't nothin'. Jus' a few tricks ma ol' granpappy taught me on his shrimpin' boat down on the bayou."

Damn, maybe I should get a job as a Hollywood script writer!

The excitable of the two commentators remarked how the Americans would be all emotional. There's only 1 American on Oracle and Spithill, I doubt, is from anywhere near the bayou.

You called it right, bud!

I think they'll create the Kingdom of Wisconsin and install King Ben (somebody's earlier suggestion of Lord Ben of Rhode Island would never do as a turkey, or was it a good layer, is named a Rhode Island Red)

Is Alcatraz still available for the losers?

"Good pressure": Jimmy, Benny and Tommy. Ain't it amazing how we have gotten to know these guys by name and I nearly fell off my chair the first time I heard (I think it was) Jimmy referring to Sir Ben as "Benny".

Best thing about Oracle is the guys have their names clearly written on them (maybe their mums didn't want them to lose the gear) so they seem much more recognisable and they talk more than Emirates TNZ, who just seem to have numbers.

But, the very best thing is that Oracle TUS have "Macbeth" on the team. No doubt he's there to remind them to screw their courage to the sticking place. Well they have.

Can't wait for the decider. ;)

21:00. Earlier tonight or is that just the gridwalk?

Broadcast has started at 2100 every night. Race start circa 2115.

It is staggering that this comeback could be one of the all time classic cup moments, but it wouldn't have happened at all if the time limit was 45 minutes...

Or the wind limit was just a bit higher....

TNZ have had 2 races called off when they were in total control. They will be very unlucky if they lose it in the end

Its the same set of rules for both sides, which were agreed in advance. Unlucky due to the wind maybe, but its not because of the rules.

Unless of course Larry Ellison has installed a huge wind-break/fan set-up just outside the Bay from where he can manipulate the wind to Oracle's advantage!

Far fetched? But then so was the possibility of Oracle winning 7 races on the bounce when ETNZ were previously so dominant.

How do I see this.....where and when?

Thanks.

The live feed for the deciding race is already up, at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHdmviq1kyg
You should get a screen with a countdown to the start of the feed, which as others have said is ~21.00BST Let's hope the server doesn't crash!

EDIT: Interesting to see that Jimmy Spithill now seems to speak with an American accent rather than his Aussie one! Good Jawb...

I've said elsewhere, but starting a race in light winds with a 40min time limit and NOT moving the marks slightly closer together was crazy. From the moment the start gun went it was impossible to finish the race.

Yes, the same to both teams... Except that the Kiwis are stronger in the light....
