America's Cup Oman TV coverage??

I'm no racer but I thought Sir Ben/BAR got the result but performed awfully.
Need to do some serious work on the starts before NY !

I haven'tseen the second day, but on the first day he was over early in the first race (their view obscured by another boat??) either way they nailed it in race 2, and Ican't remember race three but must have been ok as they went ahead and won. I think what saved them all weekend was their speed through the water - they seemed to have a half a knotover everyone else??

Interesting to see how the boats were trimmed in the light winds as well, putting crew on the leeward hull right forward...

OK some progress..............

I emailed BAR and got a prompt reply! Highlights are on iplayer http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b063s3mx/sailing-americas-cup-2016-1-oman-highlights bit confusing as I dont think this was shown on tv? And also the first shown date is wrong. So at least it looks like there will be delayed highlights after each event free to air.

Obviously the guy suggested I sign up to BT Sport but as far as I can see you can't unless you either have BT Broadband or Sky TV. I dont think you could pay for internet only even if you wanted to.

Affinite - finally got to see the day 2 races (thanks for the link roblpm :encouragement:) you are absolutely right.. starts atrocious, only saved by their boat speed.. ??

+1

He's going to have to do something about those starts, I doubt he'll be able to give away a 2-boat advantage in the Cup and still win, although he made a significant contribution to Oracle in the last cup.

Too bad the current organisation doesn't have the same attitude to this series as it did the last.

Spotted the following on Sailing Scuttlebutt - may be worth monitoring for future coverage..??

"Every month CNN MainSail explores the sport of sailing, and in the March edition host Shirley Robertson provides an America’s Cup update and checks in with challenger Artemis Racing and its team principle Iain Percy. - See more at: http://www.sailingscuttlebutt.com/2016/03/11/cnn-mainsail-preparing-for-the-americas-cup/#sthash.21vYzFp1.dpuf"

Thanks for that link - I have watched the whole of the last two series now, despite the french commentary over the top of the original sound. Well worth it if you want to watch in detail.

I have just BT internet, you actually get BT sport 1 free with that (and can watch via your first Sky box for no additional cost if you have Sky).

The coverage I thought was great, the first time I've really felt like sailing could actually become more of a mainstream tv sport!

May be last major world sailing event in a Muslim country for a while. Following the disgraceful actions by Malaysia in effectively blocking Israeli team from 2015 ISAF Youth Worlds, 2016 event apparently been switched from Oman to Austria, presumably because Oman couldn't give guarantees over Israeli sailors.

Well no sign of any New York action on the bbc yet? Just have to hope they post highlights on iplayer!! I shouldn't have switched from bt to talktalk!!
