America's Cup - dull ?

Re: Backing Peter Snow

Disagree, Peter is a newsreader cum political journalist. That is his job, sailing is his hobby: this is well illustrated in the mag article about the ARC written by his son. Being an enthusiast doesn't automatically qualify him for the role as presenter of this show. For me he is too OTT, have no problems with the guy and his swingometer, but if the AM coverage was given justice he wouldn't be the choice. SKY, for example would seek out someone who relied more on actual expertise than enthusiasm. My choice of a glam presenter is to get the whole thing more ratings and subsequent coverage, no doubt this won't happen and the crappy old Beeb will continue to promote corrupt sports like Horse Racing.

In the event, it is not a matter of great importance as it is only on once a week and at a late spot anyway. I just wish I had Eurosport, but we can't get a signal from here!

Loved the tactics

Although I go in for the odd club race I am a leading hater of 'all out' racers and knee the bounders in the groin whenever I get the chance.

But...... Have to say I really enjoyed it. Particularly the all important 'start' tactics. Lots of short races I think is the best formula.

I disagree David.

Peter Snow is an experienced presenter and he's enthusiastic. He doesn't know a vast amount about AC sailing but that means he asks the questions that the average punter would ask. That's how TV covers sports. The people who've been out and done it are "summarisers" rather than commentators.

He has two Olympic Gold medallists and the 2nd-fastest solo RTW sailor ever as his studio guests. Behind the cameras is journo Andy Preece who sure knows his stuff.

The only trick they've missed is not having a match-racing specialist like Harry Cudmore, Eddie Warden-Owen or Lawrie Smith. But that's correctable for the next round.
