Amel 50 - I want one...

I read somewhere that he was almost blind, which would explain the appearance of the old Super M's ..

Id agree they ain't the prettiest of boats but they do the job and are out there in large numbers. Definitely 'Marmite' boats.
If I could I'd have a Maramu or a 54 and wouldn't worry at all about the looks as I'd not be able to see it from the comfort and security of the helm...

I was disappointed by the 55 when I was onboard at Boot last year and this new 50 looks like Amel has totally lost the plot...
You could buy a Sensless 50 for a lot less...

That is one ugly boat!
I never understand why designers put windows flush with the hull that get scuffed by fenders! There are lots of lagoon cats here in Martinique with the fritting warn of the hull windows due to fender damage in the marinas. Why design a boat with such a stupid feature? At least with traditional portlights they are slightly recessed and small enough that that doesnt happen. I think we are now at a stage where yacht designers have no sailing experience or so it seems from some of the appauling modern designs. At the other end of the scale there is a stunning Swan andhored next to us complete with a pair of coffee grinders in the cockpit. Timeless design. Just looks drop dead gorgous from any angle

I) it reduces wear on the topping lift.
2) It helps drain rainwater which might otherwise be trapped in the folds of the sail.

I never had a topping lift wear out, most if not all the boats I see like that don't even have a topping lift.

A decent sail cover does that.
