Do they work? You betcha!

The wind blew up in Sami a few nights ago. We were bridled up to about 10 boats and the side load was too much for our CQR which pulled out. I ended up running a line right across the harbour at 45 degrees to the bow to ease the loads. Of course the 50m line was just too short so I sent the crew for a line to add to the end. He tied on a second 50m length but managed to leave 25m in the aft locker and the middle under the boat.

When I engaged forward to power us away from the jetty there was a single 'chunk' and the piece of 18mm 3 strand was parted pretty cleanly. I suspect it actually took two bites given that one strand is a different length.

After being fitted for 5 years my rope cutter has certainly proved itself! Being off a lee pontoon with 40kts blowing was not where I needed a fouled prop.

Agreed. A really great piece of kit that chewed through a 10mt piece of heavy duty fishing net and allowed us to keep underway if only slowly until I could get somewhere calmer and go down and clear all the junk away. Must work half the time without you even knowing as you only seem to hear/feel anything when it chomps something really meaty.

+1(would not want to be without one fitted to my boat)

When I lifted my boat this year there was abrasion on one side of the coppercoated rudder, which looked like it had been whipped with a cat o'nine tails. All we could think of was that we had run over a rope, which the Stripper had disposed of. Can't say I ever noticed anything though. So I guess it works!

Just a quick update.

Boat is hauled and parked til our next trip later in the season.

Inspection of shaft, bracket, prop and surrounding area reveal no evidence that the rope cutter had actually had to do any work.

Great stuff.
