I stumbled across this blog

WP_000252.jpg

it is by a bloke called Roger

http://www.agentlemansyacht.com/

and both the website and the boat are a labour of love

here are some of the snaps of his perfect workmanship

of course you can buy an immaculate Centaur for £14,000

Got home from the boat at 4:30, after wrestling with ba$tard outboard, clicked onto Dylans thread and now have just finished reading Rogers Blog. He's either a genius or needs physciatric help. Either way you have got to doff your cap to the bloke. I wouldn't call what he's doing a refurb project. More of a re-manufacture. Top class stuff. I wait with baited breath for the next installment......

I really like some of his pix

he knows how to light a boat

but talk about taking a hull back....

A great site. Spent yesterday evening reading through it. Makes my attempts at boat maintenance look pretty ineffectual and very amateur.

Glad you're all enjoying the blog, since paid work is still a bit quiet for me i'm pushing on with the jobs. The boat will get finished as i'm in way too deep financially to bin it, (not that i would of course) i couldn't tell you when that will be as it (like most things in life) depends largely on money but i have enough to get the boats struture finished this year.

Yes, when i look at the pictures of the shed out the front i do wonder how i got away with it for as long as i did, it helps having super-chilled neighbours who are interested in what i'm doing. Turned out it was a man walking his dog on a Sunday morning who lives nowhere near me that phoned it in to the council who i should point out were extremely understanding and altogether laid back despite their official paper work.

It was amusing when it came time to lift the boat over my bungalow as i purposely told no one to save on hassle and permits etc but within minutes of the driver shooting the jib far into the heavens i had a crowd of around 30 odd people stood on the opposite side of the road all tutting in unison and this was like early afternoon on a weekday - bizarre.

Highlights of the project have been discovering my mental and physical toughness as well as re-learning concepts i hadn't looked at since school to get over a hurdle or two, the lowpoint had to be stripping the hull of its gelcoat, in hindsight i should of just had the stubs and the horizontal surfaces stripped but its all a learning curve and i proved in the process you can dry and sheath a boat on your own using a little ingenuity and patience.

Theres another guy doing similar to a Konsort who resides on the Clyde called Derek Houghton click on 'Rhum Lady Photo Album' on my links menu to the right of my blog and that'll take you to his project album.

Derek's undertaken a lot of very necessary remedial work to the internal struture of the hull such was the poor quality of what was there, he's pretty sure his boat was a home completed affair from when Westerly must of been going bust the first time and as such his boat was a bit of a Friday-afternoon job. His glass work puts mine to shame and the quality of his woodwork puts alot of chippy's i work with in the shade, definately worth checking out.
