Am I too young for a FlyBridge boat?

Does 30 count as old? I suppose it probably does *sigh*

Don't know ask me tomorrow /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I think you are old enough /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

but IMO a FB needs to be a certain number of times longer than it is tall and I am not sure 35ft is long enough.

If it wasn't for the cramped mid cabin and my need to accomodate two growing children in it, that very boat would be in my berth right now.

Hey - Jez

We dont let just ANYONE own a flybridge.

You will have to put in an application and get officially considered. Applications to to OFFBRIDGE (Office of Fly Bridges)

It isnt just age to consider either - there's drinking habits as well and many other things to consider.

You'll also have to get a reference as well to put in with your application - maybe you know someone in the Wokingham group who can vouch for you.

oh, ok.

I will send the application plus usual bribe (two bottles of Gordons Slow Gin, a Bottle of Pink Fizz and a bowl of Stink Puff) straight away....

Now, references. Can I use the Rat even though he defected back to sports boats?

I found this when I was pondering a FB back in the autumn, and it's still for sale. Would be an interesting choice /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I have to agree with jfm here. I can't believe there's much over 25-30ft and 8 tonnes that's really that much fun to drive?

We go somewhere in our boat then launch the rib for a blast around the bay to get the kicks!!

I'm only 34 and I have to say that although the new breed of hard top targa style boats are realy pretty and very tempting, for us (we do our boating in the UK) the FB just makes so much sense.....you get the best of both worlds, especially if you want you live on board and use her all year round.

For day boating or a life in the med though, I would considder a hard top. I guess it all comes down to how and where you use your boat.

I had kittens when our four yr old was clambering around an F37 at rest.

It's the height, the drop off the edge, the steps, the not-very-high coamings up top: I'm not sure I'd be able to relax, especially as we only have the one (child).

C'mon on Jez, P360 is what you need and you know it!

I too am looking to change from a FB to something very different, a 28ft ish day boat with twin petrol V8s ideally.

Used the flybridge in exact same way as Jez described, a la cottage most of the time. Let's face it, at £4-5k berthing fees you need to use it for something when it's just too damn hot in the Solent to go out...

Change of circumstances now means I will only use a boat on the very best days, so why not make the most of it.

When we got the P360 our daughter was 5 I think and then a year later we had a new dog, both coped fine. The Princess has a decent amount of room on the FB, seating 6+ easily, so as good as many 30ft sports boats, plus the cockpit space when at anchor is about the same again.

You won't be blasting at >30knots, agreed, but then conditions rarely allow it anyway, at least if you want to keep your teeth, kid(s) happy, missus in same bed etc

Err, how about an S28 /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

For what it's worth, i'm definately considering a FB as my next boat... and i'm 22. So no, never too young imho

Not me !!! (but not looking at anything bigger at the moment, either, it's a "stick")

Pentane previously had an S28 - tried to sell it to me when I was looking around for mine.

Had one of those last time, twin KAD32's as most are. Still did 37knots on the GPS... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Looking for something with more deck space, less cabin.
Like the look of the Chaparral 285ssi, but know nothing about them - tryin not to look around too much at the moment, but failing miserably so inevitably the perfect boat will come up when I've not sold, and then later when I CAN proceed, there'll be nowt about. Been there anyone?

I know it doesn't help for people to point out great boats for sale when you need to sell yours first, but check out the Four Winns 285 Sundowner on Boatshed North Wales (desperate seller), or if your budgets a bit higher, they also have a fab Formula 310. Both fast sleek twin petrol overnighters at the top end of US stuff quality wise, just don't expect to ever sell them again

Or go for something sort of in-between... Birchwood 350:
