am I the only one.... who gets fed up with my bit of the world?

Off the mooring, up the river.. do we turn left or right? There is a lot of bin there, dun that! about sailing in one's own area.

Is there any mileage in arranging boat swaps? I would consider swapping with someone in, say, the west coast of Scotland. Do cruisers in THAT area get bored? Has anyone here tried it?

My idea would be to NOT overlap, so I would be around for my swapper ( makes me swapee) to be checked out and given useful local knowledge.. and vice versa when I become swapper.

Of course, the principle could be extended to other climes.

I know (before others' knees jerk too rapidly) that this has been done to some greater or lesser extent - I am interested in illumination as to whether anyone here has tried it, or knows someone who has, or.......

err, No !!

(If this contradicts anything I have previously posted, it is because I am a bad liar, can never remember what my last lie was).

Why do you ask?

Re: Could try

Had a look - I am not really ready for swap with someone abroad, seems wide open to possible disaster. Maybe I am a wimp, but I would like to get my feet wet in this sort of thing with someone in UK. Maybe somewhere like WCoast Scotland - or did I say that before?

Any one interested, please PM.

mmm I've not got bored of sailing around Scotland (North Coast and the Orkneys as well as W Coast).. we're a bit spoiled up here and the weather is not as bad as it's reputation.. (ooops shouldn't encourage peeps to sail up here...)

Any way I presume you'd want to sail something similar to your own (whatever that is??..) Where do you keep your boat? is the other Q

NB if you're any where near Luton Easy Jet fly to Edinburgh (easy to get to the Clyde) or even Inverness which is about an hour from the W Coast so it may be feasible to keep your boat up here for a season if you wanted a change to your regular stomping grounds.

Try this...

A few years ago we swapped our house in London (nothing fancy) for a basic four-berth 28-foot sloop in Auckland NZ. Wife and kids and I got off the DC10 and spent ten weeks afloat. Magic. Only thing was, we were lucky to find someone who wanted to come here in the winter. However, if you live in an attactive area, you could let them have the house in summer while you go sailing. And they'd water the dog and the geraniums. I started simply by writing a letter to two yacht clubs and asking them to post it on the noticeboard. Fantastic success.

"we were lucky to find someone who wanted to come here for the winter" - got to be the understatement of the year that one!!!! They must have been mad, how was your house afterwards?

Re: Try this...

They were a middle-aged couple (no kids) with a lot of friends to visit and theatres to see. Sure, we were lucky but we had inquiries from families too because our winter is their season of long summer school holidays.A London Christmas is an adventure for those whose main problem is keeping their beer and fizzy drinks cold.
