A couple of weeks ago while really drunk I, apparently, left a message on a mates phone suggesting we take Cobby girl over to Ireland. Last night we discussed it again and even started planning a trip in November. Is this really mad? I have full confidence in Ian as a crew member, he has a Sadler 32 in Dartmouth.

Hi Allan, having met you i can confirm you are borderline mad like most of us yotties /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif, Ireland in November is doable, as you know you just need the weather, wrap up warm, i have had some great sails in the winter, and its not so busy everwhere.

Yes completely nuts but dont let that put you off /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Anywhere in particular in Ireland?

I think it would only be dodgy if you were on a strict timetable,if you can be flexible about the days you do the crossings you could be lucky with bthe weather.

We were on holiday in south west Ireland for 2 weeks in August: weather was crap but the people and country were great.

I'd love to sail there, round the Cork and particularly Kerry coasts.

But in November????

I used to do a lot of winter sailing when I was keener. Now tend to take advantage of cooler and worse weather and atke the boat out of the water.

As someone has said, there are less boats around, mind, boat services are not always functioning.

Just have to be a little more careful with weather, Irish Sea is not always the kindest of waters. But you can also get some superb sails in.

Go for it, but take extra care.
