Hi everyone i have a very old picton 150gts with a suzuki DT 65 on the back we use it for pulling toys and my 12 year old son is in to wake boarding on sunday i decided to try to wakeboard my self i have done it before (behind a Mastercraft and got up first time ) at this point i must must inform you that i am 6feet 2in tall and weigh about 18.5 stone the boat was having none of it and i was dragged along until i could not hold on any more
Is there anything i can do to upgrade the power by means of a different prop as i am sure you are aware wake boarding does not require a massive top speed i now going on a diet would help before anyone says:mad:

No! Weight loss and bigger engine. Been there done it threw away the T shirt.

Face, it you are too big with a 65hp o/b

yes you are asking the impossible the engine can only every produce the power it develops but a different propeller might be more efficient getting the available power into useful thrust the 65 hp should get you up as i can get up on two water skis behind a yamaha 35 hp just so perhaps you have to master your technique to rise and try not to let the boat pull you up but pull yourself up when i mono ski i use a swinging action slewing from side to side to get up maybe try from a beach or pontoon there i son doubt that more power will help though good luck blowingoldboots

Although a lower pitch prop will help, I really dont think the boat will ever get you up with a 65 with conventional technique.

We used to play around behind boats of all types as kids and we developed a technique for getting out of the water with even stupidly under powered boats (Think 14ft with 35hp :( ) It involved sitting on a kneeboard with your skis on. The boat would pull you along on the kneeboard and then you simply stood up when going fast enough (This also worked for barefooting behind less powerful boats). It worked then but I dont think I would have the balance or skill to pull it off these days.

You could try a similar thing with your wakeboard, I did pull it off with a very early low volume wakeboard once.

err, is your bottom clean and polished ? I mean, the boat's bottom. It might make just that bit of difference.

If you can't afford a bigger engine how about fitting a mast and sail?
:D
