Aluminium versus polypropylene fuel tanks

An alternative might be to thread the existing hole in the tank and screw a new inlet directly into the tank if the tank wall is thick enough. Plan "B" fit a smaller dia locking nut/ring to the inside of the fitting.

Yes, there must be though I haven't looked into it yet. The tank is custom made to a very precise shape, including curves, to fit into a space under the floor of the portside locker floor. It's got to be accurate to within mm and the curve, which is the bottom surface, has got to be exact as well. Maxi now make the tanks in s/s so they should be spot on. Trouble with this solution is that they won't respond to the British agent as it's a possible warranty issue. I'm passed caring about that as I just want to go sailing. Plan B is for my wife to take the tank with the brass fitting to Tek Tanks on Monday and see what they say. I'm obviuosly going to give aluminium a complete miss.
 
Thanks for all your replies guys. You might be interested to know that the UK agent, SD Marine in the Hamble has come up trumps. The boat is now over 4 years old, but SD Marine have informed me that Maxi have just shipped from Sweden a new polypropylene tank under warranty. Excellent service
