Alternator

I am planning to fit a sterling regulator but am having touble trying to even find out what the rating of my alternantor is. It is fitted to a 20 year old Bukh 10, but i have no idea if it is the original alternator or not. It has a stciker on it saying Delco remy and an engraving that reads 621 5X39 2 70A LY. Does this mean anything to anyone as I cant find much to help on the web

I think the 70A maybe 70 amps, but that may be too obvious. Find a local auto electrics specialist they normally keep old books etc.

I have had experience with delco remy over the years. They have made many different variations but all basically the same. I looked in my old Delco book and unfortunately can't find yours from what you posted but I sure it is 70A. Call Adverc they will likely help you.

Check with the Delco website. Sterling support most alernators except Balmar I believe. Check with them whether Delco's are supported. I converted my Hitachi. Works nicely.

In the article a 70Amp alternator is mentioned in relation to a BUKH 20DME. My BUKH handbook covers the BUKH 10 and 20 so it is more than likely that they use the same alternator. I haven't got the manual with me so I can't look it up.

Sorry got it wrong. I have looked at my BUKH handbook, and the alternator mentioned in the handbook is a Paris-Rhone A13N1M-100605.

The output is 700Watts -not 70 amps- and the website I pointed you at also said 700 watts. So divide by 12 to get the current - i.e. 58 amps.

So it's likely that your AC Delco was a replacement, and 70 amps wouldn't be out of place.
