I've recently changed my alternator on my engine, Perkins Prima M50, from a Prestolite to a Lucas A127 70 amp, but the new alternator doesn't show any charge.
I wired it up like this: the two heavy wires which lead to the starter motor and then onto the batteries, I put the negative to the negative stud and the positive to the positive stud on the alternator. The light brown/black wire to the small stud marked "w" which is I believe is the rev counter. The brown with the spade connector to the small spade connection next to the two larger blank spade connections, this is I believe the warning lamp. A black cable which comes out of the regulator, I have connected to the cable which was connected to the regulator on the Prestolite. Three other cables which I can't identify, I've connected as before ie the blue to the big positive stud and the two black cables which are joined to the negative stud.
When I've started the engine, I've put a meter onto the back of the alternator but it's showing no charge.
I've taken the alternator off and returned it to the supplier and they've tested it and said it showed a 60 amp charge.

What am I doing wrong?

Is it a self exciting alternator ? if not you need to run a wire from the starter motor solenoid to initially excite the alternator. It may be that your old alternator was self exciting.

Does this help?
