Hi now installed the new alternator but the rev counter is not working now 😢. The Black/grey cable is connected to the W terminal. What can I now check ? Is there a way to see if the W terminal is working? Or is there another issue that we have caused ? The rev counter briefly showed a few revs on first startup with new alternator but now nothing 😢😢

Thanks

Stupid question ... Do you still have the old alternator ? was it working when removed ?

If yes to both questions - I would be inclined to put old back and see if rev counter is working ... if not - then I suspect counter has failed.

The question would then be ... Why ?

The inference is that the old alternator was producing electricity at its heart and the issue with it was peripheral - regulator, wiring etc.

The revcounter typically requires three inputs: +ve, -ve and W, which is the un-rectified AC output. It should be possible to check all of these with a multimeter:

Rev Counter - Fault diagnosis?

I'm on much the same venture as soon as I can find the boat's multimeter... :(
