Alternator repair

My Friend has Just been advised that his alternator needs repairing,it is fitted to Volvo Kad 32s, he has been quoted £140.00 to repair it , plus labour for fitting it,does that sound reasonable or would he be better getting a new one, does anyone know the cheapest place to obtain one from?

If time is not too important , take it off (fairly easy) take it to local auto elecrics people they will recondition it. The price does not sound too excessive for anything labelled "marine"

Bought a new un for a Volvo last year for £160 inc Vodca and Tonic and carraige.
Got me old one fettled as a spare for 40 drinking coupons at the local mender on the industrial estate.
