Alternator repair/test Surrey/Middlesex area

That is what I fitted on my BMC 2.5 diesels to replace the old Lucas 16ACR. I actually got mine from a BMC Mini website. (Lucas A127 upgrade). Your issue may be if you have insulated earth alternators .

Hard to be sure without examining the connections, but it does look as if it might be insulated earth.

Most alternators ( on cars etc ) earth through their body frame to the engine. On some boats the earth output of the alternator is connected by a wire which then goes off in the loom.

I once had a boat that had an insulated earth alternator which connected to a wire which ran to a ring terminal under the mounting bolt! Bit of a waste of time really....

Newport Ignition Services were a good call, thanks.
They tested my alternator for a fiver and gave it a clean bill of health. I reckon it's the regulator, as the wiring's good and there's that smell of old burnt electricals coming for it.
Thanks for your help.
