Ive bought a new regulator and the connections are marked a bit different from the original. Can anyone help figure out whats what.

The original had connections

New one has connections

I don't know!!

Just get that in first!

The W might be a rev counter connecting. Certainly W is an AC output!

H+ is likely to be the positive output to the starter and battery

LO+ might well be the connection to the warning light

and -tive speaks for itself.

Only reason I am replying is that I have just had a new alternator and have been flumuxed by the different wording/labels for the connectors.

I searched the internet, and got what seemed to be good information, but it was incorrect! So be warned.

Suggest you get the info from the horses mouth so to speak, from the manufacturer of the regulator manufacturer.

Good luck

I think it is probably a CAV440 or 440D type of external regulator such as I also have on my 24v system. Commonly fitted to Land Rovers, Rolls Royces and Bentleys. You might find something on the relevant Club forums.
The hi med and low definitely refer to charging settings ie voltage settings 28,27and 26v (or half if you are on 12V). I have a toggle switch to choose between med and High.
The other connections I am less sure about but I may come back on this one for my own interest. unless someone else nails it first.
(I don't think the previous post is correct)
Here are the standard connections
web page
This is from John Payne's bible and may help
Your best plan may be to ask a friendly auto electrician.

Thanks for the link Gypsy

It is indeed a CAV unit. I think I probably have it sussed but with a bit of luck sombody a bit wiser will bumble along and give me a bit of confidence before I have to use it and take my chances. I will try on Monday and see if I can have a word with a car sparks.

Cheers
