port engine's alternator has expired, anyone know of a good remanufacturer, or better yet new alternator, but not at these prices, unnamed parts, who brag they are cheaper than VP, £268 + tax /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif the part in question is a Valeo A13N 148m 12v 50a alternator.fits a 20 year old AD41.

so far found Trickett Marine £190 plus tax for new.

any better offers?

Thanks.

Again, try your local Auto Alternator/Starter repairman - much cheaper than a new/recon unit, but you may have to wait a day or so if he has to get in any spare parts.

Now you're learning!! Never go near these marine gaffs for this kind of thing, an alternator is an alternator, millions of them around and a lot are all the same.

For 80 quid, sounds like it was only the diodes anyway.

Whenever I go to these type of places, nuts and bolts, alternators, anything mechanical or eletrical, I put a pair of grubby overalls on you suddenly become one of us and dont talk posh or at least try not to!! Saved me thousands of pounds!
Always use yellow pages and go to industrial estates, use brown brothers or similar for engine parts, but most of all, know what you are talking about.
If you have a posh/expensive car, leave it round the corner.
