Alternator problem?

I have a problem with my alternator ( volvo penta 2003t). The green power light flashes occasionally, the tachometer fluctuates occasionally and sometimes the engine revs fluctuate. This happens separately, or all together or any combination. The belt has been adjusted and electrical contacts have been cleaned.

Has anyone any ideas?

It is charging when the green light is off.

Perhaps the next step is to check the alternator brushes, followed by the regulator. If the connections are all OK, the easiest solution might be to simply take the alternator off and get it checked by an auto electrics place.

Sounds just like my mates- he had his alternater re-wired and new bushes and that solved the problem.

Brushes would be my first inspection. Possibly just a build up of carbon. Normally come off the slip rings quite easily.

If the slip rings are dirty some very fine wet and dry should clean them up.
