I have 2 x KAD300's.

Last summer, giving the engines the usual checks, the port alternator appeared not to be giving a charge (voltage didn't go up when just that engine running, but voltage up when only stbd engine running)

BUT, the alternator alarm didn't go off? When tested, the alarm sounded and light lit up.

Wondering is it just my imagination that it 'wasn't charging'? Has anyone ever had similar? Not charging, but not sounding alarm...

I will re-check in spring, just incase it was my mind playing tricks.

Yes had exactly same thing on a Volvo, the yellow sense wire on the back of the alternator had a loose spade connector, quick fix with a pair of pliers.

Thanks for that. I forgot to mention that I put a multi-meter on the terminals, and was only getting 12.x v reading on that alternator (with engine running). I think i'll whip it off and send to the local shop.

Hi N,

I had that too on our f37 with the same engines. As in Chris's case the problem was a loose lead at the alternator.
