Hi all, just rewiring an old Lister SR3 with an equally old Lucas 2 wire alternator.
I bought a pack of dashboard lamps from ebay, not LEDs. Anyway, wired up and wouldn't excite the alternator so to check I wired in an old nav light, well that worked and alternator started kicking out 13.8v nicely. So I bought a 47ohm resistor to increase the load but still no joy, tried in series and in parallel.
Is the regualtor on the way out?

If the nav light wired in worked okay it's not the reg, used to be a 2.2 watt bulb, your resistor should be in parallel, series will reduce current. Try fitting smaller bulbs in nav light, see what is the smallest it will charge with.

Cant fit any other bulbs in the nav light. well maybe i could but pointless spending money on lower wattage bulbs for this. i'll try and dig out some old torch bulbs and i'll solder up the resistor and try again tomorrow. maybe just bad connections.
