Alternative to push catch door button thingies......

It seems every yard regardless of market segment uses these:



As i want to incorporate a finger pull detail into the drawer and door fronts on my boat is there a catch that can hold the door closed and not be visible, preferably something like a magnetic pull catch but quite strong or is the reason everyone uses the above because its the only thing that works at sea.

I nearly lost a finger in one of those things some years ago when I lost my balance as some unexpected wash hit whilst I was getting the biccies out following making the tea. Strewth, it really hurt. I still think of it every time I eat a Ginger Nut (doesn't stop me eating them though). I've been very wary of them ever since (finger-pull openings, not Ginger Nuts).

Westerlies had those as does my Trapper. If they are no longer available could the push button be fitted inside the locker or drawer with a similar hole to get a finger to it?

All my drawers and cupboards are held shut with elbow catches accessible via a finger hole.
