This little boat would suite me fine but I couldn't justify the cost. What would be an alternative shoal draft, seakindly roughly 17ft boat without a sprit and which could be left on a mooring or take the ground, with a 'glassic' look?

Have a look at the Coastal Whammel from Character Boats: Classic look, gaff rigged, easy to maintain plastic but lots of nice wooden trim, shoal draft and takes the ground well: seems to tick your boxes and is competively priced

Thanks. Whammel is interesting but with no keel seems inefficient and it has a sprit. The Oysterman is beautiful, it's a boat I know but much too big and heavy for trailing or drying on a mooring.

Cornish Crabber 17? Insanely expensive new (£15,750 for the standard boat) but you can get a good secondhand one for £10k or less.
