Ive just made new instrument panels in teak faced ply so I can replace and re-arrange the instruments at the chart table but now Im very hesitant to drill holes in the new shiny panels for fixing to the frames using screws - this was the method used on the old panels but I would like to consider better looking alternatives

The panels sit in a framed aperture with stop beads - Im thinking of using some sort of 1/4 turn rim lock or maybe surface mounted 1/4 turn latch - something like the below ?

Any ideas appreciated

Thanks - that’s a good suggestion but I reckon I would need to add some sort of handle to pull off the panels - they are a reasonable good fit and even just resting in the frame very reluctant to come out - Ive pulled the knob off the plotter a few times !

Just in case anyone else finds this thread useful in the future and after considering Velcro - I decided to go with these button fixings and use a medium duty suction cup to remove the panel when required

I hinged mine on one side and used one of these on the other. The nice thing with these is you can adjust the grip.

These could be useful too (Steve Yates - the others were a different form of button fix)

Button Fix

They used to be called keyhole fixing used on mounting pictures and mirrors onto a wall
