I have to conect the alternater up on the boat its a standard 75 amp job off a transit looks like Lucas.The three pin conection is no problem 2common for power to battery and 1 warning .However i need to conect it to the tacho ,theres a spade post marked w and a post marked b or 8 not clear ,anybody know which to connect to the tacho???

w will be the tacho connection, normally a link to one of the field windings.

Dunno what b or 8 could be, how old is it?

cant you connect an avo to see which terminal gives an increase when the rev's are opened up. I know one is for the suppresser ,I'l try find the book which will have the info .

Mick,

it won't increase in voltage the Tacho measures frequency eg. rotational speed in this case of the alternator. Hence the direct feed from one of the windings.
