Ever suffered from those occasional bits of damage to the boat. I am trying to form a list of useful remedies.

1/ Gel coat scratches and marks. Tippex.

2/ Carpet stains. These can be repaired in many ways, dependant on colour. If pink or red. Tomato soup or red wine, or if sort of pink mottled sort of look. Vegetable soup ground in, could be the answer.

3/ fag burns in carpet. These can be repaired with a sharp screw driver, just dig around a bit and the pile fills the hole.

4/ Upholstery. Fag burns or marks. Tippex again for the white stuff, or a felt tipped pen, for say blue or red.

5/ Plimsoll lines or boat names. Insulation tape. You'd be surprised at the number of colours you can get.

Any one else got some usefull tips.

Tippex is alright for petty scratches that dont go all the way through the matting but for the really deep stuff that penetrates a sticker is more permanent-

No smoking

no deck shoes

or if it really big then you may need to rename the boat

Care is needed when choosing the boat name, it has to be something that covers the gash, even a big full stop might be needed for the bad bits. It can be achieved with gaffer tape, painted an appropriate colour. Many boats do this by writting things like.

www. boat. com, org.co uk sailing skool@ google mail. com. All down the side of the boat, it's a good way of mending sails to. Bet you've seen it loads of times.

Some boats have big holes in the bottom, these can be mended by ramming a big mast in them. The mast is held up and pressure is applied to the hole, with loads of string and wire. Some times the mast makes the boat fall over, so a big blob called keel is added. This holds the boat up and also hides the hole. Old boat might have two masts to fill holes and very old ones have four.

Holes are rarely in the same place, so nearly all boats have.

BOAT NAME on one side and EMAN TAOB on the other. (dont believe me, try switching them around). This is born out by the fact that new boats dont have names, cos new boats have no holes.
