I'm replacing the keel bolts this winter (full thread to follow).

The beneteau data sheets specifies PU-501 polyurethane "glue" under the washers but am having trouble sourcing it. Does anyone know of a source or an alternative?

From googling it would appear that many wood glues are polyurethane and have the same "expanding" properties as they set but given the nature of the application I really would like to get this one right :)

Thanks in advance

JR

PS I use the word "glue" as a quote from the Beneteau data sheet but suspect it's being used for it's sealing properties

Polyurethane Adhesive/Sealants are very different beasts to Polyurethane Wood Glue.

Sikaflex is the standard European PU Adhesive / Sealant in Europe with 3Ms being the standard in the USA.

Both are fine, but then so is PU40 from Toolstation which is the same thing at only 30% of the price.

Thanks Jim, very helpful.

I have since also found a "501" adhesive that's used for windscreen bonding. see here

Is there a meaning behind the numbers 501, 40, etc ?

Dinitrol 501 may well do the business with the keel boat washers. Its a high modulus one-component polyurethane adhesive after all said and done but IMHO it would be folly to buy a product intended for car windscreens for the purpose when for about a 1/3 as many beer tokens you can get PU40 from Toolstation or for not a budget busting amount a cartridge of Sikaflex from a swindlery
