Yes, thanks, David , we are OK; Charley unexpectedly turned E into Charlotte Harbor just 50 mi S of us and our area was unscathed. We drove 1600 miles from Michigan expecting to find a mess, so imagine our relief. We are seriously thinking of moving!
Water in the Solent is now lovely and warm (well 19 C) and rain has also lost the sting that you felt in the Spring. No hurricanes - guaranteed - and I know of an empty berth where you can moor your boat for the price of an occassional ride!
Looking at the pictures on the TV then were was loads of damage to boats in the marinas and also the trailered ones parked at some of the storage lots. I guess we need to be careful about cheap Florida sourced boats in the next few months!
Back to the UK! You know better than that, Jon; for a couple of months per year, yes, but full-time, no. It's too stressful - and expensive! Water in the Gulf a balmy 29C. And I might take a dip today to check and possibly remove the growth on my props - if it's not barnacles, which will need a diver bloke's attention. Get back to work!
Talk about kicking a man when he is down! Waved goodbye to my boat yesterday, slipped on tears and hurt my leg, wife and kids have left me (for a weeks holiday) and you remind me to get back to work.
Without a boat I might get thrown off this forum soon - and then who'd be sorry!
It was work committments that partially stopped me going on holiday but no reason why I should not spend a few hrs boating, particularly one evening. If you fancy bringing your boat up to the Itchen I even have a spare mooring.
Whoa, Jon; don't get all narky 'ços wifey's away/forums/images/icons/smile.gif.
re:Hatteras 53: beautiful boat, 1979, owned from new by our friend and completely refurbed inside a few yr ago. I'd post a piccie if I knew how. We arrived at their marina in Harbor Springs, NW Michigan Sat a week ago and set sail on the following day to Mackinaw City on the NE side of Michigan in Lake Huron. The plan was to stay there a couple of days, then go to Drummond Is(world's largets freshwater island) to a Hatt rendezvous for a few days. After that, cruise into Canadian waters to Georgian Bay. However, the weather was very English - blowy and cool, so we stayed in Mack Cty 4 days drinking a lot and then heard that Charley was going to hit Longboat/Sarasota/Tampa, so decided to head S to at least be near home after the storm. What more can I say other than what I've already bored you and others with?
