Leg was taken off a few months ago and new seals fitted.
I have now got a slight overeating, and am suspecting the impeller.
Can I split the 2 gearbox halves for the impeller change?
Or do I need to remove the leg and then split?
2000 model year Gen 2.

Put the gear into forward, drain the oil, remove the 2 bolts each side and one forward and one back under trim tab anode, and slide off.
Don't lose the small 'O' ring on the right hand side of the pump housing which seals the oil pipe between upper and lower sections. Replace to be safe, remove pump cover, replace impeller and lube with washing up liquid. refit cover, check the water intake is clear while its in bits.
You can apply a hose pipe to the copper water pipe going up inside the upper section, you should see water exiting from the bypass ports each side of the transom shield.
Check the lower section is in forward gear and slide up onto upper section, checking that the water pipe engages in the plastic guide tube on the top of the pump cover.Fit two bolts and check for correct gear selection then fit the rest before refilling with oil. Don't forget the 'o' ring.
Suggest cutting out the beer, pies and cakes for the slight overeating!

Thanks very much spannerman.
Will take your diet advise as well! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
(Not making excuses, but cordless key boards and sun don't go well together) /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Also there is an input shaft seal that sits on top of the pump housing on the Gen II with the later stainless pump housing which should not be be reused, the impeller kit should come with it and a plastic tool to get the spacing just right, check before you buy the impeller kit.

Just to double check a few things!
I am assuming the shaft, and therfore the pump turns counter clockwise (std leg)
Also, the rubber boot thingy that sits on top of the stainless steel housing. Does it physically just sit on top of the housing, or should it be pressed into the stainless steel housing and into that small lip it has moulded into it.
I only ask, because it looks as if it 'should' sit in the housing making a seal, but mine was sitting a few mm away from the housing.(Slid up the shaft)
Thanks again.
