Aloft or just out of the way

I'm off to the boat show with a short but pricey list. My old mono Navman 500 plotter has packed in. Ideally like to replace it with the old 900 colour as I think it will just slot in the same hole at the chart table but:-

1. Will it use the new CMap NT+
2. Is it just a swap job?
3. Would I be better off making a bigger hole and get one of new 5500 jobs?

Aloft or Just out of the way?

Sorry forgot my main reason for this post. I also want to buy radar and can't decide. Up the mast or on a transom tripod contraption.

Any views. Also pros and cons of a plotter/radar all in one job.

I have just made these decisions... The Radar scanner is going on the mast, the cost of a decent pole fitting was £700 ish and it is difficult to get at the scanner once fitted. I have bought a Furuno colour combined radar/plotter having looked at all options and considered price/reliability and backup.

Hi Doris,

Questions, questions,

Thanks for the feedback. Did you go for colour? What should I expect to pay? Is it ok with CMap NT+? Were you able to take the cable through the deck without a bulky plug on the end? The rest of my nav gear is Raymaine (Autohelm) what is yours? What sort of bracket did you use?

Phew, sorry I,m not from the sailing Gestapo just frightened of making a blunder!
Hope you can help....
