Hi Erbas
I have been enjoying your blog, having watched your progress yesterday over Ray Sands on Marine Traffic (there is no escape). I was surprised to see an account already on the Blog. I am intrigued to know how you enjoy such good internet connectivity in Pyefleet Creek?
Regards

Turning it off would disapoint my legions of fans though Rog :)

I rarely fail to get a signal Boz, previously with Orange and now with 3 Mobile. It does sometimes require the use of a 3 MiFi device though and if necessary that goes up the mast in a waterproof bag!

The data signal was a bit flakey last night in the Pyefleet but the blog posted second try on the phone without resorting to the MiFi

Thanks Erbas.... I use EE now having got fed up with Vodafone. I get a good 4g dongle and phone signal in Fambridge, but it wasn't special in Bradwell. Maybe Sailorman is right - AIS, Internet Coastguard, sometimes we suffer from information overload?

Anyway, enjoy yourselves in Heybridge :)

Regards
Boz

I think that the nearest phone mast to Bradwell is on Mersea. On the boat I sometimes get a 3G signal at HW but no chance at LW. Up near the loos the signal is not bad. Wifi codes available for pontoons A-D or the marina bar.

Still unable to find sailorman on Facebook though ;):p

There was strong EE signal in Pyefleet when I was there a couple of weeks ago.

We've yet to find a place on the East Coast without 3G coverage; even up the beloved Butley Creek. It's important for iPlayer and Netflix, we all need our fix on The Kipper; South Coast was a different matter with lots of dead spots, I suspect the number of users was a factor squeezing the bandwidth. Marina wifi is almost universally woeful, the exception is Guernsey which was excellent.

Have you been to SYH?
Vodaphone: no signal (or sporadic) in the marina - patchy on the mooring.

We use an iPhone on 3 as a wifi hotspot and it's fine in the Orwell and Stour. Down at Wrabness we watched the final few episodes of Breaking Bad tucked up in the aft cabin and chewing fingernails as it concluded. I'm very sceptical about most modern technology but video on demand services are blumin brilliant, we used to have to watch what they wanted us to watch, now we get to choose and it all just seems to work. This summer on a very long and dull passage I worked my way through the best Top Gear episodes on Netflix, made the time go by just nicely. Used to have my head in a book on those sort of trips but am iPad in the wheelhouse is much better.

Where did I put that Mutley sniggering smiley ;)

Will this do?

I get awful data coverage from Vodafone all up the east coast, which is annoying as that's the one that I get free from work. Brightlingsea is a complete black spot, which is a shame as that's my home port. I have an EE connection on my iPad which gives much better results, but still not flawless.

EE on iPad is generally better where Three is poor, but we've still never been out of 3G on the East Coast. Three lives up to its data marketing.
