One of the memsabs offspring has just had baby daughter. She was sent a few names to comment on, one of which was Alma. I passed on that backgroubd was a battle in the Crimea and a decent pub in Harwich. So any unwelcome vibes over-ridden by other associations, praps from Swedish d-in-l. Not really. The correct meaning is of a child who lifts the soul or spirit of another. Kind of appropriate.
