During cleaning of Windscreen on my HR34, I have discovered considerable corrosion in the alloy extrusion which holds the rubber seal around the glass. I have removed the seal and scraped away all the white powder, but wonder if there is anything that can be painted onto the areas where the anodising has broken down to prevent further corrosion? I thought about smearing silicone grease over the affected areas to exclude air before replacing the seal - any suggestions?

I have similar problem at joints of my aluminium extrusion boat window frames.

I have been experimenting with epoxy metal to replace the corroded section. It seems easy to use and can be faired off to match the original shape though the stuff I have cures to a grey colour.

How long it will last remains to be seen.

Anyone else tried this stuff?

are there any other metals anywhere near - stainless fasteners for example? or electrical wiring to a wiper? if so, use duralac as a jointing compound at the interface.

i paint my aluminium drive leg with 2 coats of epoxy primer and 2 of twin pack poly finish. it works, but on underwater components it doesnt last more than 2 to 3 years.

an outboard dealer will sell you a can of zinc chromate primer which is designed for the aluminium parts of the motors. you can then paint over it with a cellulose based paint.
