Unfortunately Steve we don't have any records of you ever sailing with us, when was this? And we do not have any 'instucteurs' But our instructors are very experienced and Yes Allabroad is allways chaotic with all the happy cleints and successful Fastrack students who have just passed their Yachtmasters, 5 of these guys stayed on afterwards to covert to Motor, all are very happy and will be posting here soon.

If you wish to achieve YM Fastrack book with a school that offers more boats, bigger boats, you start off on 44 footers, a large dedicated shorebased facility with classrooms, Fastrack lounge and some of the most experienced instructors around, up to 3 weeks self skippering, free further training if it goes wrong on the big day and a 2 week opt out option if you are not in any way happy with your course. Allabroad Sailing Academy Is the only school in Gibraltar to offer all this and more. Thats why we are so chaotic!

We run our little club school under the auspices of Yachting Australia. It is in line with RYA sylibus.
However it is clearly specified training to be in boats of less than 8 metres that are very manouvrable. So yes smaller boats much better for training. olewill

Another positive for AllAboard from me. I did my Day Skipper practical with them about 5 years ago. I did two weeks as I was rusty on the navigation (having done the shore-based course at college in London many years before that!). the two weeks was spent on board and in the evenings the instructors revised the theory with me. Over the weekend in between I was encouraged to use their shore-based classroom and an instructor came to help me with some of the exercises. Overall, I had a very positive experience.

one thing I would suggest is to think about what kind of experience and training you want and try to find out in advance about the kind of instructor you might get. I know there is a syllabus to follow, but my two weeks were vastly different from each other. In the first week I had a very laid back (older) instructor, from the salty sea-dog, man and boat and sea living in symbiosis, school. The way i remember it (bearing in mind it was a while ago now) a lot of the sailing with him was about sense, instinct and feel. In the second week I had a very different instructor - a young adrenaline junkie kind, really into racing and performance and very technical. I can say that I more enjoyed the first week, but learnt as much from both.

I, also, can vouch for Allabroad - and fully concur with Paul (Lex) and Dave's comments. I joined Allabroad last year to complete my Yachtmaster Offshore - having already gained some 14,500 miles through the Joint Service Adventure Sail Training Centre (JSASTC) and completing a Souther Ocean passage from Capetown to Perth and an Equatorial crossing from Montevideo to Antigua, as well as numerous trips in the Med, Canaries, Madeira and even the UK. I was already pretty experienced, especially in passage making.
Allabroads instructors (for me that was Alex and Alan in the main) were excellent and I couldn't have asked for better. They prepared me to such a high standard that, although nervous on the day of the exam, I had no problems and passed easily.
These guys are good. They are chaotic sometimes, but that's sailing for you ... it's not an exact science.
Finally, how much would I recommend them? I've sent 2 colleagues their way, a few more lining up and my own wife is even doing her Yachtmaster Offshore with them as I type, so what do you reckon.
Keep up the good work guys!

Hello,
Does anyone have experience with Allaboard Sailing in Gibraltar?

Yes, AllAbroad took me successfully through Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and YM Coastal. Good school and good facilities. As always, every instructor is an individual and you may not click with each and every, personality-wise, but for sure they all know their stuff, are very professional, and want you to pass. Certainly to be recommended from my own experience. Its worth noting that there are a number of schools in Gibraltar and there's a bit of rivalry between them, so you may hear stuff based on that, which could be misleading. One of the nice things about learning in Gib is that you won't get your backside frozen off the way you often will in some of the UK's grim weather.

Sorry Steve it was Dave Punch's response I was referring to, in it he has a pop at the spelling of a critical comment ( I think from someone who is not an English speaker) but Dave's own response is not error free!

As he made that post over six years ago his spelling may have improved by now :)
